Final -Tense Affair

Teams from Muree and Cypress Lakes lined up in the State Senior Pennant Final at Toronto Golf Club. The 10.30 tee time was met with heavy black clouds which showered for the first 40 minutes of play.

Early matches were very tight, with Cypress Lakes just having their noses in front. Murees’ No.1 stalwart, John Sullivan was head to head with one of the States current leading senior amateurs, Robert Smythe, this match did not disappoint and was super tight to the end.

By mid round all other matches were tight, with Murees’ patience starting to pay nice dividends. Murees’ No. 3, Steve Startin stormed home, shooting under par round the back nine to win 5/4.

Cypress Lakes Captain, Matt Watts was super solid all day and posted a 5/4 win. Super cool Tim Messenger accounted for his match 4/3. Big hitting Steve Geise brought his A-Game to the final with a strong 5/4 win.

Paul Locock pipped Chad Timmins 2/1. Graham Bremmel made a huge comeback to square his match with Peter Drinkwater. Very well done to Muree on a fine win.

We would like to thank very much some of the Toronto members who loaned their carts to players in the State Senior Pennant final - it was very much appreciated,

Thanks to Superintendent, Aaron Cachia and staff for providing players with a great test of golf for the final, the course and greens were superb. We would also like to thank the Toronto Workers Club (our major sponsor) and CEO Ben Launt for hosting the State Senior Pennant final.

Many thanks to Chef Dean, and Functions Manager, Charmaine for a special dinner after conclusion of play at Toronto Workers Club.

See you all in 2024.
